Documentary Viewing at the Embassy of Italy

Italian villas are the quintessential symbol of romance and tranquility; they are an idyllic vacation setting, commonplace in magazines and movies (none more popular than Under the Tuscan Sun).  Yet, Italian villas have their own rich history that surpasses honeymoon destinations and wine-country lodging.

Newly released documentary Villa Visconti Borromeo Litta: four centuries of history explores the transformation of the villa from a country home to a house of entertainment during the 15th century.  The Italian Embassy in D.C. will host a screening of this film along with a presentation by director Francesco Vitali and National Gallery of Art Curator Dr. Allison Luchs.  This screening will also be accompanied by a concert featuring music by 16th-18th century composers.  Musicians Kristen Dubanion-Smith, Rob Petillo, William Simms, Elizabeth Field, and Paula Maust will perform under Tina Chancey's direction.
